UPDATE: Elgin police clear area surrounding AMITA St. Joseph Hospital

ELGIN – Elgin police are clearing the area around AMITA St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin after a large police presence there earlier Wednesday evening.

According to a post on Elgin Police Department's Facebook page, there was an "isolated domestic incident" in the hospital parking lot. No shots were fired, and there was never a threat to the public, Police Commander Eric Echevarria stated, and the incident remains under investigation.

The post thanked the public for their patience as officers "worked through" the situation.
