Will County Courthouse requires visitors to wear face coverings

The Will County Courthouse will require all visitors to wear face coverings to help slow the spread of coronavirus.

The new requirement will begin Friday for anyone who enters the courthouse building at 14 W. Jefferson St. in Joliet. Chief Judge Richard Schoenstedt said in a statement that the courthouse will require visitors to wear a face covering in accordance with a proposed executive order from Gov. JB Pritzker.

“In addition, we will place appropriate markings, signage and other designations to inform individuals of the locations where they can sit or stand while maintaining an appropriate social distance. We must remain vigilant to ensure that appropriate measures are taken until the outbreak no longer poses a major threat,” Schoenstedt said.

Pritzker’s proposed order requires anyone over the age of 2 to cover their nose and mouth with a face covering if they are in a public place and cannot maintain a six foot distance from others.

Schoenstedt recently extended an administrative order that limits courthouse operations until May 15.
