SPRING VALLEY — Hall High School in Spring Valley has announced Abigail Draper is the valedictorian for the Hall High School graduating Class of 2020. Regina Scarpaci is the salutatorian this year.
Draper, the daughter of Ann and Dan Draper of Dalzell, plans to study computer science at Milwaukee School of Engineering. She was captain of the ACES team, and a member of the Spanish Club and the Scholastic Bowl team. She has placed first in computer science, mathematics and physics at ACES competitions. She won the Hall High School Honorary Art Award, was Best in Show at the 2019 TRAC art festival and received first place in the NCI Artworks youth art show. She is an Illinois State Scholar, a member of the National Honor Society and a National Merit Scholarship Commended Student.
Scarpaci, the daughter of Jim and Lorie Scarpaci of Dalzell, plans to attend Western Illinois University to pursue a forensic chemistry degree and become a forensic scientist working in a state crime lab. She is involved in Pep Club,basketball, soccer, Honorary Activities Club, Scholastic Bowl, Leo’s Club, Advanced Choir, National Honor Society, tutoring, DEED’s Club, ACES and Spanish Club. She is member of the Envirothon team which has twice advanced to state, captain of the bowling team, a pianist, and an active part of her church youth group and TEC. She is an Illinois State Scholar, DAR recipient and an Elks Teen of the Year. She won the Princeton Soccer Invitational Sportsmanship Award last spring.
Paige Blackburn is the daughter of Earl and Audrey Blackburn of Spring Valley. Her plans are to attend Illinois Valley Community College for her first two years as she pursues a career in creative writing. She was a member of the Spanish Club (currently serving as president), ACES (where she won first in physics and English this year), National Honor Society, tutoring, Creative Writing Club, Scholastic Bowl and basketball. She is an Illinois State Scholar, third-place finisher in poetry at the Princeton Festival of the Written Word, a published poet in Creative Communication’s Young Poets Anthology, and recipient of the Hall High School honorary art award in 2018.
Olivia Novero is the daughter of Jason and Gretchen Novero of Spring Valley. She participated in cheerleading (captain), Science Club, Medical Health Careers Club, Spanish Club and Pep Club. She was an Illinois State Scholar, elected to the homecoming court and named a member of National Honor Society. She plans to attend Illinois Valley Community College and transfer to a university for her BSN for nursing in obstetrics.
Sarah Croasdale of Spring Valley is the daughter of Victor and Lois Croasdale. She plans to attend the University of North Dakota for aviation to become an airline pilot. She has been in Pep Club, Spanish Club, ACES (where she has medaled in mathematics the last two years), and track and field. She is an Illinois State Scholar, a member of the National Honor Society and an active member of the Illinois Valley Symphony Orchestra.
Kendall Hansen is the daughter of Lee and Samantha Hansen of Spring Valley. She participated in Spanish Club, Science Club, Drama Club and Pep Club. She is the Devilette captain, football team manager, homecoming court candidate and National Honor Society member. She plans to attend Illinois Valley Community College to obtain an associate’s degree and then attend Illinois State University in pursuit of a degree in secondary education in math.
Hayleigh Brokaw is the daughter of Deb Brokaw of Cherry and the late Jason Brokaw. She participated in basketball, softball, volleyball, Honorary Activities Club, Spanish Club, Student Council and peer tutoring. She is a member of the National Honor Society, a class representative, a class officer, captain of both the softball and volleyball teams, and a member of both the prom court and homecoming court. She plans to attend Illinois State University and major in business administration.
Addison Konczak is the daughter of Rhonda Moore and Keith Konczak of Spring Valley. She has participated in Spanish Club, Pep Club, volleyball, soccer, Science Club, Student Council and tutoring. She is Devilette captain, Student Council treasurer, Honorary Activities Club president, National Honor Society member and a member of the homecoming court. She plans to attend Illinois State University to pursue a degree in elementary education.
Cecilia Aldana is the daughter of Sandro and Mirella Aldana of Spring Valley. She plans to become a nurse. She played soccer for Hall all three years and remained on the high honor roll throughout school.
Teanna Cattani is the daughter of Aaron and Kathy Cattani of Ladd. She is involved in cross country, basketball, Devilettes and Honorary Activities Club. She is a member of the National Honor Society, an Illinois State Scholar and an Elks Teen of the Month. She was captain of cross country and basketball, prom queen and homecoming royalty. She was named BCR Cross Country Female Runner of the Year and Hall Cross Country Female MVP as well as named to the All-Conference Cross Country Team, News Tribune All-Area Cross Country Team, BCR All-Area Basketball Team and TRAC All-Conference Basketball Team. She was honored as NCI Artworks Outstanding Student of the Arts, named All-Conference Artist and received three first-place finishes at TRAC art festivals. She plans to attend Southern Illinois University Edwardsville for an art therapy degree.
