A Joliet man was arrested after he entered another man's house to beat and choke him late Saturday night, police said.
Joliet police responded to the 5100 block of Williston Court in reference to a disturbance shortly before 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, according to a news release.
Officers determined that Matthew Kodrick, 34, had entered the private residence to confront a 33-year-old man over a past altercation, police said, and the victim woke up that night to Kodrick entering his bedroom.
Once inside the other man's bedroom, police said, Kodrick beat him with a metal pipe and began to choke him while making death threats. The victim managed to flee and barricaded himself in a bathroom, police said.
Kodrick forced his way into the bathroom and again battered and choked the other man, police added.
The victim then fled the residence, police said, but Kodrick followed him outside.
Kodrick used a knife to slash the tires of the man's vehicle and then fled the scene in a gray Jeep SUV prior to officers arriving, police said.
Officers stopped SUV in the area of Theodore Street and Staghorn Drive and took Kodrick into custody, police said, and the officers found a knife inside the Jeep.
Kodrick indicated his involvement with the incident, police said.
The victim had multiple injuries but did not require hospitalization, police said.
Kodrick was on probable cause of home invasion, aggravated battery and criminal damage to property, and booked into the Will County jail. He was expected in court on Monday.
