ST. CHARLES – After three seasons as St. Charles East’s head girls basketball coach, Aubree Schuett has stepped down from the position, the Chronicle has confirmed.

Schuett is stepping down to focus on family.

“[It’s] not an easy decision by any means,” Schuett said. “I love those kids. They’re fantastic kids. They work so hard.”

The Saints went 27-62 in those three seasons, but primarily featured young rosters the past two years after graduating the school’s all-time leading scorer and rebounder in Sara Rosenfeldt following the 2017-18 season.

The vacant coaching position is currently posted on the District 303 website.  A former Naperville Central standout in high school, Schuett later began her coaching roots with stops in Virginia and Maryland.

Schuett later coached IC Catholic in Elmhurst for five seasons, which included consecutive fourth place finishes in the Class 2A IHSA state tournament in 2014 and 2015.

Plans for possible replacements aren’t immediately known.  Schuett’s father, Jeff Lawrence, served as an assistant on her staff all three seasons with the Saints.

“We’ve always been kind of been a package deal,” Schuett  said. “That’s another part that’s really challenging and difficult with this all, is that we’ve always [coached] together. And, that was always really special. It was always really special to be there together on the bench, father-daughter, like we had always talked about.

“[That’s] another experience that I know both he and I are so, so grateful to [have],” Schuett continued. “[We’re thankful to] the staff and administration at IC Catholic and also at St. Charles East for allowing us or giving us the opportunity to be able to do that together. [It] created memories that he and I will cherish for the rest of our lives.”
