DeKALB - A DeKalb man who police say admitted to being a drug dealer is facing charges after DeKalb police initiated a drug bust of his apartment in the 900 block of Ridge Drive Wednesday and found cocaine, handguns, a revolver and a bullet proof vest.

Sheldon A. Maze, 33, of the 900 block of Ridge Drive in DeKalb, is facing multiple felony counts for being in possession of controlled substances including more than 15 grams each of cocaine, Fentanyl, Morphine, along with more than 100 grams of marijuana, according to DeKalb County court records.

DeKalb Police Cmdr Bob Redel said DeKalb's drug unit has been investigation Maze for months with the help of the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office.

"We'd been given information that he was selling both cocaine and heroin in DeKalb, detectives have been working for a while," Redel said. "Investigations led to a search warrant, and we searched his home."

DeKalb County Circuit Court Judge Phil Montgomery set Maze's bond at $1 million Thursday, though DeKalb County Assistant State's Attorney asked that bond be set at $2 million because of Maze's prior convictions for possession of controlled substances.

During his bond hearing in front of Montgomery Thursday, Maze appeared wearing a face mask via video conferencing call from the DeKalb County Jail.

In her appeal, Klein revealed police also found $20,000 in cash at Maze's home. Maze's attorney, Brian Erwin, said Maze had intended to use the cash to post bond on an additional charge.

In total, Maze is charged with being armed habitual criminal, three counts of unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, possession of a firearm without a FOID card, possession of ammunition without a FOID card, three counts of possession of controlled substances with an intent to deliver and possession of marijuana.

Jasmine Hardy, 28, also of the 900 block of Ridge Drive, was charged with possession of marijuana after police say she told them the marijuana, which was found in two glass jars inside the bedroom of the apartment, was hers.

Police discovered the items after initiating the search warrant at the apartment where they also uncovered drug paraphernalia such as scales, packaging materials and cutting agents.

Police said they five firearms which were found in his apartment: a Glock 34 9mm handgun, a loaded Charter Arms .44 special revolver.

The search also uncovered a bullet proof vest, and police said Maze admitted that he sells controlled substances, records show.

"I don't know why he had it," Redel said, referring to the vest, firearms and ammunition. "Your guess is as good as mine. But he should not have had it. He's out on parole, he should have zero guns, zero drugs."

Maze has prior convictions for manufacturing and delivering cocaine in DeKalb County, along with a Kane County conviction for unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

At the time of his arrest, he was on supervised parole with the Illinois Department of Corrections.
