After a dozen inmates at Sheridan Correctional Center had tested positive for the coronavirus since late March and since recovered, the facility reported a new case Friday.
The facility has had seven staff members test positive for the coronavirus — with five of them recovered.
Inmates are considered residents of La Salle County and count in the county's COVID-19 totals. Staff members only count in the county's totals if they reside there.
The 1,500-inmate facility is on lockdown, which means there is no movement around the facility except for medical care. Staff who work with individuals in isolation and quarantine, as well as in healthcare units, are wearing full personal protective equipment and all staff are wearing some PPE.
Prisons have not been taking in any new admissions from Illinois county jails after Gov. JB Pritzker issued an order.
