St. Charles Park District Norris Recreation Center offers outdoor fitness, relaxation classes

ST. CHARLES – The St. Charles Park District is giving residents a way to enjoy fitness and relaxation classes with the Norris Recreation Center this summer.

According to a news release, the Sunshine and Sweat series will offer three options: mind/body, cardiovascular and strength.

“Both a cardiovascular and strength workout will improve your overall caloric burn while you can improve your flexibility with the yoga class,” said Ande Masoncup, assistant superintendent of recreation for the park district. “All of these classes will help improve overall fitness levels and increase energy.”

The classes are offered 9 a.m. Saturdays June 13, June 27, July 11 and July 25. This is a free class, however advance registration is required. Participants can register for one or all of these dates.

Also slated to be offered outdoors is the Vibration Sound Healing class, taught by instructor Jenny Bergold. She introduced the new class in January and has watched it continue to gain popularity each month as participants discover the health benefits, the release stated.

In Vibration Sound Healing, participants bring their own blanket or yoga mat and lie down as Bergold uses varying instruments, including a gong, Tibetan Singing Bowls, drums and other singing crystal bowls.

Bergold has learned how to use the instruments so that the sound vibrations and the meditative atmosphere of the class work in harmony to provide relaxation and can have a positive, healing effect on the physical health.

“We all know music heals,” Bergold explained. “With Vibration Sound Healing different notes can help to regenerate cells, improve digestive system or improve emotions.”

Vibration Sound Healing will be offered from 8:45-9:45 p.m. Tuesdays June 9, July 14 and Aug. 11. The cost per class is $10 for park district members and $15 for nonmembers. Advance registration is required. The class is open to participants ages 12 and older.

With the current health crisis and economic challenges, Bergold said this class is a wonderful way to help find relaxation.

“We have to relax and rest to rejuvenate,” Bergold said.
