Princeton Public Library announces summer reading program

Youth, Teen and Adult programs offered

Starting Monday, June 15, through Friday, July 31, Princeton Public Library patrons will dig deeper to read, investigate and discover using an internet-based system called Reader Zone to help log reading minutes.

Reader Zone is an app for Android, Apple or Amazon devices (not for desktop computers). Search for the Reader Zone, install it to your device, make an account, and add your reader or readers' names — a parent can include all members of the family under one account,. Join the Princeton Public Library reading program with the code: 87672.

Log reading starting Monday, June 15. The library will also have traditional paper logs that can be picked up starting Monday, June 15, and returned each week.

The library is offering three different reading programs: Youth (PreK to age 12), Teen and Adult, and will offer incentives to encourage readers as they accrue minutes. There will also be an online raffle for prizes at the end of the summer reading program.

Because the library is only open for book and media pick-ups, there will be no face-to-face programs. Instead summer readers will receive a weekly list of activities and challenges that can be done at home. Some activity materials will be provided in pick-up packets at the library; other activities don’t require special materials or use materials easily found at home.

The library is also planning to offer a few online programs over the summer in addition to a weekly storytime each Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. on the Princeton Public Library Facebook page.

The “summer learning slide” has always been a concern, but with the COVID-19 pandemic and the move to remote learning in mid-March, it’s especially important to keep children reading and learning this summer. Participating in the library’s summer reading program is a fun way to bridge the gap.
