Two northern Kane County juveniles and a Tennessee man are facing first-degree murder charges after the Monday evening shooting death of a Carpentersville man.
Devon Coleman, 17, of East Dundee; Phillip Walker, 17, of Carpentersville; and Joel V. Leitner, 22, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, were each charged with three counts of first-degree murder and attempted armed robbery.
The two 17-year-olds are being prosecuted as adults.
Kane County prosecutors said that about 9 p.m. Monday, Jordan Durr, 27, of Carpentersville, walked up to a vehicle parked at 9 Oxford Drive in Carpentersville.
Leitner was driving the car, while Coleman and Walker were passengers. As Durr was talking to the occupants of the vehicle, prosecutors allege that someone inside the car who shot Durr in the left side of his chest.
Durr ran a short distance and collapsed near a dumpster, prosecutors said.
Coleman, Walker and Leitner then allegedly went to where Durr was lying and went through his clothes.
Carpentersville police arrived a short time later and placed Coleman, Walker and Leitner under arrest, according to a news release.
Durr was pronounced dead a short time later at a local hospital.
Leitner’s bail was set at $750,000, while Coleman and Walker’s bails were set at $500,000 each.
Their next court appearance is scheduled for 1 p.m. June 19 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
