Inmate dies at Whiteside County jail; cause of death under investigation

MORRISON – A Whiteside County Jail inmate found unresponsive around 4:30 this afternoon has died, Sheriff John Booker said in a news release.

The inmate, who Booker said had a preexisting medical condition, was not identified. An autopsy is planned, and as is procedure, Illinois State Police will investigate.

Correctional deputies performed CPR and called Morrison Ambulance and the Morrison Fire Department to assist, but emergency responders were unable to revive the man.

The jail was put on lockdown for a brief time during the emergency.
