Joliet man kicked down woman's door, attacked her, broke TV: cops

A Joliet man kicked in the door to his ex-girlfriend’s apartment in Joliet, battered her face and body multiple times, broke her TV and other items that belonged to her, police said.

At close to midnight June 26, officers went to an apartment in the the 300 block of North Bluff Street after receiving a report of a disturbance, Joliet police Lt. Christopher Botzum said.

The officers investigated the incident and determined Jarrius Harris, 23, of the 500 block of Albert Avenue had kicked in the door of his ex-girlfriend’s apartment and proceeded to batter her, Botzum said. While he was inside the residence, he broke her TV, knocked over a TV stand and damaged other property, he said.

The ex-girlfriend had injuries but she did not want medical treatment at the time, Botzum said.

On Tuesday, officers found Harris and arrested him, Botzum said.

He was taken to the Will County jail on charges of home invasion, criminal trespass to a residence, domestic battery, and criminal damage to property, according to court records.

The criminal complaint alleged Harris struck his ex-girlfriend in the face, kicked her in the torso and damaged her door.

The most serious charge against Harris is home invasion, a class X felony punishable by up to 30 years in prison.

At Wednesday’s bond hearing, a judge set a $500,000 bond for Harris. He will need to post $50,000 for his release from jail. The judge also ordered him to have no contact with the victim in the case or her apartment.

A preliminary hearing in Harris’ case is scheduled for July 22.
