Woodstock School District 200 plans on blended learning approach for upcoming school year

Woodstock School District 200 plans on having classrooms operate under a blended approach, with morning and afternoon shifts, for the upcoming school year.

According to a reopening plan sent to families Thursday morning, in-school lessons, corresponding with at home e-learning shifts, will be Monday through Thursday. Students have been assigned morning or afternoon in-school shifts for these days, while Fridays will be remote e-learning for everyone.

Parents do have the option of full-time e-learning, the district said, while elementary and middle school parents will have the option of their child remaining at school for the entire school day for supervised remote learning.

"Employing shifts allows us to maintain social distancing by reducing the number of students in school at the same time," the district said. "Shifts also allow more breaks for students who are wearing masks throughout the day."

The district says families should have received a survey on Thursday, July 16. They are being asked to detail preferences for their child by Wednesday. If families choose to have their child participate in e-learning only, they will need to indicate that request on the survey. Those who have not received a survey should email info@wcusd200.org.

All students and staff will be required to wear face coverings throughout the school day and while riding district buses. Students will be spaced out as much as possible while on the bus, with the average bus transporting between 35-38 students.

When they enter the school buildings, students will have a daily temperature and symptom check. All desks will be spaced 6 feet apart, and between the A.M. and P.M. sessions, the school buildings will be cleaned following Illinois State Board of Education and Centers for Disease Control guidelines.

Grant-Funded Pre-K

The pre-kindergarten morning shift's live instruction will start at 8:25 a.m. and end at 11:40 a.m. For the afternoon shift, live instruction will start at 1:10 p.m. and end at 4:25 p.m.

Kindergarten

Kindergarten morning live instruction shifts will start at 8:25 a.m. and end at 11:40 a.m. Families can choose to have their students remain at school for the supervised remote learning portion of the day in the afternoon. Students will be 6 feet apart and work on remote learning activities, while taking breaks outside to allow their masks to be off when possible. Students can also be picked up from school after their morning live instruction session and attend the remote learning portion of school from home.

Kindergarten afternoon live instruction shifts will start at 1:10 p.m. and end at 4:25 p.m. Families can have their students be dropped off in the morning for supervised remote learning, or students can be dropped off at school for the afternoon live instruction session after they attend the remote learning portion of the day at home.

Grades 1-5

Grades 1-5's morning shift live instruction will start at 7:20 a.m. and end at 10:40 a.m. Like in kindergarten and pre-K, families also can have their child remain at school in the afternoon for a supervised remote learning portion of the day, or they can be picked up to complete that at home.

The afternoon shift will start at noon for grades 1-5, and end at 3:20 p.m. Families can have their students attend school for supervised remote learning in the morning, or they can be dropped off at school in the afternoon after attending a remote learning session in the morning at home.

Middle School

The morning live instruction shift for middle school will start at 8:25 a.m. and end at 11:33 a.m. Students can stay at school for the afternoon supervised remote portion of the day, or they can be picked up by a family member at 11:33 a.m. or bused home to complete their remote work.

The middle school afternoon shift will start at 1:12 p.m. and end at 4:20 p.m.

Similar to the morning shift, students can come to school for supervised remote learning in the morning, or complete their remote work at home, then come to school for the 1:12 p.m. afternoon shift.

High School

The high school morning shift will start at 8:15 a.m. and end at 11:18 a.m. Eligible students will be bused to school at 8:15 a.m. and bused home at 11:18 p.m. for remote learning.

The high school afternoon shift will start at 1:03 p.m. and end at 4:10 p.m. Eligible students will be bused to school for a 1:03 p.m. start after completing their morning remote instruction and be bused home at 4:10 p.m.
