Police have charged a McHenry man with leaving the scene of a crash after a hit-and-run Thursday night on North Front Street in McHenry.
Brandon L. Chaples, 24, was charged with failure to stop after a crash involving personal injury, a Class 2 felony, and leaving the scene of a crash involving injury, a Class 4 felony, according to a news release from the McHenry Police Department.
McHenry police responded at 11:23 p.m. Thursday to the 300 block of North Front Street. A car and a bicyclist both traveling south on Front Street crashed. The bicyclist was thrown onto the road, causing injury to his head, and the car left the scene of the crash, police said.
The bicyclist was flown to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. His injuries were not life-threatening.
The crash investigation led officers to the 4300 block of South Street in McHenry, where a blue Toyota Corolla was found and determined to be the vehicle involved in the crash.
Officers made contact with the suspected driver, Chaples, who indicated he was driving the car at the time of the crash, according to the release.
