The 2020 Harvard Milk Days Queen Coronation and Scholarship presentation will be done virtually this year, because of COVID-19.
The Harvard Milk Days’ Queen Committee “wanted to give the opportunity to those ladies that had turned in their applications, before COVID-19 struck, for a scholarship,” the committee said in a news release.
The event was moved to July 25 with hopes there would be a queen to participate in the Miss McHenry County pageant and the Milk Days’ event that happens in October, according to the release. This year’s McHenry County Fair has been canceled.
The 2020 Harvard Milk Day Queen will participate in the 2021 Miss McHenry County Pageant and the 2021 Milk Days activities along with the 2021 Harvard Milk Day Queen, according to the release.
“We want to thank the eight young women who chose to continues with this very different pageant this year,” according to the release.
The participants will be judged on their personal interviews and their speech. The winner of the scholarship will receive $1,800, while the first runner-up will earn $800 and the second runner-up will earn $400.
The event will take place Saturday via Zoom with awards being announced at
6 p.m.
