Genoa-Kingston School Board to vote on fall re-entry plan Tuesday; board member to resign

Also: Board member Shipley to resign

GENOA - The Genoa-Kingston Community Unit School District 424 board is scheduled to vote on Tuesday on it's return to school pan.

As presented July 20, students will alternate every other day based on last names, with one group going Mondays and Wednesdays and the other going Tuesdays and Thursdays. The groups will alternate Fridays. School dismissal time will be at 1 p.m. and face masks will be required for all students who chose the in-person option.

The district will also offer a remote learning option.

Last week's meeting was attended by more than 200 people online and about another 100 in person. Reaction was generally negative from parents, mostly stemming from the district not allowing full-time attendance, especially at the elementary level.

The schools also dismissed early, but a plan was in place to talk with the park district about providing expanded child care. An item on Tuesday's agenda is for the approval of an agreement between the park district and the school district.

Board member John Shipley is also expected to resign, and discussion to fill the vacancy appears later on the agenda.
