Straw sculpting contest returns Friday to Mt. Morris

MT. MORRIS – The fifth annual U.S. National Straw Sculpting Competition opens Friday and works will be on display through Aug. 23 on the old college campus downtown.

Five new sculptures are entered, all being built by returning sculptors/teams; Steve and Michele Lentz, Doreen White (Polished Hair & Nails), Chris, Cecilia and Ellen Mann, Danica and Mark Rogers, and Fran Volz.

Straw sculptures from previous years done by the same sculptors, and Mt. Morris Big Build, also will be on display.

People can vote for their favorite online at StrawUSA.com from 6 p.m. Saturday until 4 p.m. Aug. 23.

There will be no StrawFest day, normally scheduled for the closing weekend. Smaller events may be announced.
