No injuries, $75,000 estimated damage in DeKalb house fire

There were no injuries reported in a house fire in the 1300 block of Sunrise Drive on Saturday morning in DeKalb.

According to a news release from the DeKalb Fire Department, the fire originated in an attic in a home on Sunrise Drive.

"On arrival, fire units observed heavy black smoke in the rear of the home," the news release stated. "Firefighters made an aggressive interior attack finding the fire primarily in the attic. Access was made through the ceiling and walls to extinguish the fire while other fire crews ventilated to release fire and smoke. Simultaneously, a primary search was conducted for victims, which none were found."

The fire was contained to the attic and the rear of the home, and no surrounding homes were in danger.

DeKalb Fire Investigators consider the cause of the fire as accidental, and estimate the amount of damage at $75,00.

Burlington, Cortland, Malta, Maple Park, Shabbona, and Sycamore Fire Departments; DeKalb Police, ComEd and Nicor all assisted, according to the news release.
