DePue Schools switch to remote learning after community’s spike in COVID cases

DEPUE — DePue School Board this week voted to change its return-to-school plan due to a recent spike in COVID-19 cases in the community and will go to remote learning.

The school had originally planned to do a blended learning plan that included both remote and in-person learning.

DePue’s remote learning will be from Aug. 31 to Oct. 30. Nov. 4 is the tentative date set for students to return to the blended learning plan. A letter announcing the changes was sent to parents this week from Superintendent Brad Kenser.

“You will received more information from the building principals as well as your children’s teachers in the coming days. We appreciate your understanding as we embark on a truly unprecedented time in education,” Kenser stated in the letter.

The DePue teachers will utilize Aug. 24-28 as planning days to prepare for remote learning. Students’ first day of school (remote learning) will be Aug. 31.

The school board will continue to monitor the health data at the September and October board meetings to make further determinations about remote vs. blended learning options.
