ST. CHARLES – Urban Air Adventure Park was getting set to open May 9 in the former Butera Market in St. Charles.
And then the pandemic struck, which pushed back the opening of the indoor trampoline and adventure park.
"The opening date was probably pushed back 10 to 12 times," said Kevin White, general manager for the facility in St. Charles.
The park – located at 2732 East Main St. – is set to open its doors to the public Saturday morning. And as the pandemic continues, the park is going above and beyond in protecting the health and safety of customers and employees.
That includes taking the temperatures taken of all staff and guests upon arrival, wiping down frequently touched equipment and having touchless food service. Prior to Saturday's opening, the park held an event on Friday for essential workers, Chamber members and community leaders.
White said he hopes that essential workers were able to "kick back and unwind and have a good time" during the event. Eddie Adamo, of South Elgin, was at the park with his two daughters. He works at the Costco store in St. Charles.
"It's definitely nice of them to do this the day before the grand opening," said Adamo, who was watching his two daughters zip around on go-karts. "We appreciate that."
Charlie Caruso, 19, of Aurora, was reliving his childhood as he tried different rides with Preston Beth, 19, of Aurora. They have known each other since kindergarten.
"This place has everything," Caruso said. "It's pretty big."
Beth was anxious to try everything the park had to offer.
"We're definitely going to try everything around here," he said.
That includes the Sky Rider.
"We're definitely going to have to do that, unless there's a weight limit," Beth said, laughing.
