Less than week after students moved in, 2 cases of COVID-19 identified on NIU campus

DeKALB – Less than a week after students moved back to campus to begin the fall semester at Northern Illinois University, two cases of coronavirus have been reported.

The cases were identified Friday, one in an employee and one in a student, according to NIU's campus dashboard, which will update COVID-19 cases regularly by 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, according to the website.

“This dashboard reports positive COVID-19 test and recovery result data on students, faculty and staff who have physically been on campus within 14 days of testing positive,” according to the website.

Faculty, staff and students are instructed to contact the NIU COVID-19 Helpline at 815-753-0444 if diagnosed with COVID-19, have symptoms of COVID-19 or have been exposed to someone diagnosed with COVID-19, as this allows the university to provide support, initiate appropriate contact tracing and reduce the spread of the virus.
