La Salle-Peru High School was informed late Tuesday afternoon of its first confirmed case of COVID-19.

As a result, all La Salle Peru High School and Area Career Center students will participate in classes remotely beginning Wednesday, Aug. 26, and continue through the remainder of this week. Additional information regarding plans to return to in-person learning will be shared before the end of this weekend, said L-P Superintendent Steven Wrobleski.

“In coordination with the La Salle County Health Department, we have contacted all individuals who may have been in close contact with this person,” Wrobleski said in a letter.

Persons who have had close contact with an individual who has tested positive for COVID-19 or is suspected of having COVID-19 should isolate or quarantine at home and monitor for symptoms for 14 days.

“Our top priority is the health and safety of our students and staff,” Wrobleski said in a letter. “Through collaboration and coordination with the La Salle County Health Department, we will continue to provide any additional information regarding potential COVID-19 exposure to the school community, while also maintaining employee and student confidentiality as required under state and federal law. We encourage all members of the school community to continue using preventative measures to reduce the potential spread of COVID-19, including practicing social distancing and wearing masks.”

Anyone with questions or concerns should contact the superintendent’s office at 815-223-2373.
