ST. CHARLES – One month after Sheriff Ron Hain announced the first positive cases of COVID-19 in the Kane County Jail, Hain announced in a press release Thursday that all inmates have tested negative after tests conducted on Monday.

The release stated that 30 inmates out of 387 tested positive during the initial outbreak in mid-August and were quarantined. The jail began weekly testing of all staff and inmates under the advice of the Kane County Health Department and the Illinois Department of Public Health.

The inmates who had tested positive experienced only mild symptoms, the release stated.

Sheriff Hain credits the outstanding work of the jail command staff for coordinating the response and the corrections officers daily diligence to keep the facility sanitary and operating, while many of them were dressed in full PPE suits for an entire shift, the release stated.
