Truman’s Ridge to release 'Beyond the Ridge'

Truman’s Ridge, a regional Bluegrass/Americana band based in Sycamore, will release its newest CD, “Beyond the Ridge,” on Oct. 9.

Organized in 2008, the band has four members: Steve Sarver (guitar), Bruce Wallace (banjo, harmonica, upright bass), Chris Johnson (upright bass, guitar) and Charley Smart (dobro, resonator, guitar). Truman’s Ridge is known for its classic style, high energy, and tight harmonies and instrumentation.

The group’s harmonies are varied, at times reminiscent of the early brother bands, and at other times showing a strong rural-gospel influence in the two-, three- and four-part vocals. The lead vocals are always strong. Instrumentally the band continues to show the influence of Midwestern string band and Chicago jazz and blues on its interpretation of traditional arrangements.

“Beyond the Ridge,” the band’s fifth CD, includes new original material as well as cover songs with styles from traditional bluegrass to jazz, gospel and rock.
