The associate principal at Marengo Community Middle School was named as the school's principal for the 2021-22 school year last week.

The decision was made during a Sept. 23 meeting of the Marengo-Union Elementary District 165 school board, Superintendent Lea Damisch said.

Damisch said while this school year is only Associate Principal Brad Breakfield's second year at the school, he will bring a wealth of experience in education to the role when he replaces current principal Tracy Beam next yea.

"I am very excited and thankful to be named next year's principal of MCMS," Breakfield said in a statement. "I want our students and families to have the best educational experience here at the middle school."

Breakfield has worked in education for 15 years, with ten years of teaching experience and five years in administration, according to the statement.

Most recently, he served as coordinator of assessments for Oswego Community Unit School District 308, according to an overview of his resume provided by Damisch. He holds a master's degree in educational leadership as well as a bachelor's degree in education.

When asked about changes he might like to make as principal next year, Breakfield said he plans to stay the course of the supportive and innovative approach already utilized by the Marengo Community Middle School team.

"We have a growth mindset and are always looking to improve our instructional practices, technology, parent involvement and social emotional learning," he said in the statement. "It's about learning and improving everyday."
