Police: Gurnee man failed to report Richmond crash that injured woman

A 24-year-old Gurnee man remained at the McHenry County Jail Friday after police say he crashed a car into a telephone pole and injured a woman, but didn't report the situation to police.

Cody W. Washington, of the 400 block of Gould Street, is charged with leaving the scene of a crash and failure to report a crash.

He also was cited for reckless driving, improper turn at an intersection, failure to render aid, improper traffic lane usage, driving without a license on his person, speeding more than 35 mph above the speed limit, and operating an uninsured vehicle.

The crash occurred at 2:36 a.m. Wednesday, when Washington was driving a Silver 2019 Nissan Sentra westbound on Route 12 at Cunat Boulevard in Richmond, court records show.

The Nissan struck a telephone pole, injuring a woman, according to a criminal complaint. Police and fire officials were not immediately available to comment on the woman's condition or clarify whether she was a passenger in the vehicle.

Washington made a brief court appearance Thursday morning when a judge set the man's bond at $50,000. Washington would need to post $5,000 bail to be released.

He's due back in court Monday morning for a bond hearing.
