Hana Yassin of Frankfort and her family opened their third Smoothie King franchise last month and business is going well, she said.
In fact, Yassin didn’t even know Smoothie King had a fan base in Will County until her family opened up their first store in Naperville nearly three years ago.
“They’d say, ‘Oh, my goodness, I’ve been waiting for something like that here,’” Yassin said.
The family also owns a Smoothie King in Bolingbrook, she said. Their newest Smoothie King is located at 643 E. Lincoln Highway in New Lenox.
Yassin herself first heard about Smoothie King when one opened up in Mokena. She liked the smoothies; her kids liked the smoothies, and the thought of opening their own appealed to her, she said.
“I try to eat healthy and try to provide my kids with healthy alternatives,” Yassin said. “They taste great and I’m not joking. It’s just like fresh fruit cup.”
Her son plays soccer and she feels the smoothies help “reboot” his vitamins and electrolytes after practices and games.
“It provides you with fruits and vegetables that are organic," Yassin said. "There’s no artificial anything in our smoothies. Everything is 100% natural.”
Smoothie King has a smoothie options for vegans, athletes and a “slim” menu for those “looking to lose weight or control your diet,” Yassin said.
A glance at the menu on the Smoothie King website shows a variety of other topical blends: wellness, fitness, break time and a special menu just for kids.
“The variety on the menu and all the benefits it provides – that’s what I liked about it,” Yassin said.
Nutritional information and allergens are listed with each smoothie on the website.
Yassin’s favorite smoothie? The angel food smoothie.
“You can add frozen yogurt to it,” Yassin said. “It’s just like a strawberry creamy drink that’s healthy for you.”
According to its website, Smoothie King is a privately owned, New Orleans-based company.
In addition to smoothies, Smoothie King also offers sports beverages, energy bars, healthy snacks, vitamin supplements, herbs, minerals and other sports nutrition products.
Smoothie King opened its first store in 1973 and started as the first franchised smoothie bar/health food store in the United States in 1989, the website also said.
