Brianna Blaine, 17, of Ohio, is Amboy High School's October Student of the Month. She is the daughter of Brian and Amanda Blaine. Her siblings are Brennan, a freshman, and Addison, a fifth-grader.
Favorite class: Anatomy/physiology. I loved learning about the different parts and functions of our body.
Least-favorite class: English. Interpreting passages and writing essays are not my favorite.
Favorite teacher: Danielle Benesh is our social studies teacher at AHS, and I have been in many of her classes. Her classroom is always a fun and positive atmosphere, and we learn so much. She is always there to help whenever I may need it, and always pushes me to go above and beyond.
School activities in which you participate: I am part of the girl’s volleyball and basketball teams, National Honor Society vice president, Spanish Honor Society treasurer, and our senior class secretary.
Civic, church, or other volunteer activities in which you participate: I am a member of the Leo’s Club, which is a volunteering and community service club through the Amboy Lion’s Club.
What will you do after high school? I plan to attend the University of Iowa or University of Illinois to major in biology. My goal is to become a physician or physician assistant.
What is something you learned in high school that you think you’ll never use? Greek mythology. I honestly don’t remember much about it, and I don’t think I’ll ever need it.
If you could change one thing about your school, what would it be? Bring the snack line back at lunch. It was a surprise every day to see what they had, and everyone used to race downstairs to get in line first to make sure they got what they wanted.
If you could create any new class at your school, what would it be? I don’t think I would create a class, I would just bring back foods and nutrition with Mrs. Becker. I think we all learned a lot from that class, and it was a blast. Lots of memories were made in Kitchen 4.
What does it take to be a successful high school student? You have to have a strong work ethic and good time-management skills. Getting involved is also super important.
Do you have a job? I work for Susan Welty during the summer and after school at her daycare in Amboy. I love my job, because the kids are so enjoyable and they are always making me laugh. It is so cool to see them grow up and learn new things.
How would you describe your group of friends? They are some of the most fun and adventurous, yet hard-working people I’ve ever met. I really don’t know what I’d do without them.
Who is your best friend? Madelyn Mclaughlin. She is my go-to for everything and always supports me in whatever I do. We have been best friends for as long as I can remember.
What do you do in your free time? I love to shop, which isn’t necessarily a good thing.
What kind of music are you listening to? I listen to country music most of the time, but I also listen to a little bit of R&B and alternative.
If you could go anywhere in the world for free, where would it be? I would go to Italy, because from what I’ve seen it’s beautiful. The food would be a plus as well.
What is your favorite childhood memory? Some of my favorite childhood memories are playing “Pretty Pretty Princess” and checkers at my grandma’s house with my cousins, and going on Ranger rides with friends and family.
What is the best way to cheer you up? Go to Starbucks and get iced coffee with me.
What is your life's philosophy? “If it is not going to matter in 5 years, don’t spend more than 5 minutes worrying about it.”
Do you have any pets? I have a dog named Gus. He is a shih-tzu and bichon frise mix and he’s super friendly.
What would you do if you received $1 billion all of a sudden? I would pay for my education, travel, and donate to local charities.
Is there anything else you want people to know about you? I can’t draw or paint to save my life, so it’s safe to say that art is not my strong suit.
