'Inside the First Folio' virtual event scheduled

DeKALB – The First Folio was compiled by John Heminges and Henry Condell, two of Shakespeare’s fellow actors. Without it, we would not today have half of Shakespeare’s plays.

At 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, Peter Garino will examine how the First Folio came to be, its importance to our knowledge and understanding of Shakespeare, and how the Folio is used by actors today in crafting their performances. This virtual event is hosted by the DeKalb Public Library.

Garino is a founding member of The Shakespeare Project of Chicago and has served as artistic director since June 2010. He most recently appeared as Polonius in The Project’s theatrical reading of "Hamlet, Prince of Denmark". He will direct "Richard III" in The Project’s 2019-2020 season. Garino attended the National Shakespeare Conservatory and holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in acting from Illinois State University and a Bachelor of Arts in theater arts from Hofstra University, New York. He is a member of Actors’ Equity Association and SAG/AFTRA.

This program is free and intended for ages 12 and older.
