GLEN ELLYN - The Glen Ellyn Food Pantry will host an online variety show benefiting its capital campaign building fund to renovate its new home. Viewers will enjoy an old-fashioned community concert telethon featuring acts by local entertainers via Zoom on Nov. 1 starting at 6:30 p.m.
A link to the event is free, and during the show, the pantry will share news about its capital campaign, which will expand hunger relief efforts in the community. The goal is for viewers to be inspired to donate by calling phone lines staffed by volunteers, or by donating online.
The new location was donated by Faith Lutheran Church in the old parsonage adjacent to the church on Park Boulevard just north of Roosevelt Road in Glen Ellyn. The renovation and relocation are necessary to accommodate the growing needs of those experiencing food insecurity. More than $620,000 has been raised toward the $900,000 capital campaign goal.
Local performers will be featured including Gavin Coyle, an Irish pop and folk singer and musician; Anima - Glen Ellyn Children’s Chorus; the McNulty Irish Dancers; the Youth Puppet Team from the Village Green Baptist Church; One Voice Children’s Choir; and comedian Amy Sherman. Additionally, artist Jeff Bevington will complete a painting during the telethon and it will be auctioned via Zoom before the end of the event.
While the audience can view the event for free, registration is highly recommended. Visit www.GlenEllynFoodPantry.org for information and for the link to register. To donate directly to the building fund visit https://bit.ly/3jYN6Q9. Through Nov. 9, every dollar donated to the pantry will be matched by a donor, up to $25,000.
