Bears receiver Javon Wims was ejected from Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints after throwing two punches at Saints defensive back C.J. Gardner-Johnson.
After the whistle on a third-quarter play, Wims took two swings at Gardner-Johnson, setting off a scrum near midfield. Wims wound up at the bottom of a pile of Saints players. It took referees a few minutes to separate the two teams.
Multiple flags littered the field and the referees ejected Wims. A 15-yard penalty on Wims set the Bears back to 2nd-and-20, and quarterback Nick Foles threw an interception on the next play.
It's hard to say for sure what provoked Wims to throw the punches. The television broadcast caught glimpses of a Saints player poking Bears receiver Anthony Miller through his face mask at one point.
Wims left the sideline immediately after his ejection and headed to the locker room.
