Paige Stees, 17, of Dixon, is the Dixon High School September Student of the Month. Her parents are Marc and Lori Stees, and she has two brothers, Luke and Joshua, and a sister, Leah.
Favorite class: Sociology, because the topics covered are very interesting to me.
Least-favorite class: Statistics. Ryan Hoffman is great, but the subject itself was challenging for me
Favorite teacher: Wendy Fitzanko, because she always has a positive attitude and is willing to help her students with anything they may need.
School activities in which you participate: Cross country, track and field, Key Club, BLIND, and freshmen mentoring.
Civic, church, or other volunteer activities in which you participate: I am a lector at St. Anne Catholic Church.
What will you do after high school? I plan to attend a 4-year university; I have not decided on my specific major yet.
What is something you learned in high school that you think you’ll never use? Although I never minded practicing grammar, I cannot imagine that I will be diagramming a sentence anytime soon.
If you could change one thing about your school? Before the pandemic occurred, I would say the biggest issue was finding a parking spot in the morning. I would attempt to find a way to create more parking spaces because it would make everyone’s day a little easier.
If you could create any new class at your school? I would create a class that teaches students necessary life skills, like how to pay bills, save money properly, and interview for jobs. I think that having this type of experience would be very helpful for students before they graduated.
What does it take to be a successful high school student? It is important to stay on top of your school work but also enjoy yourself by getting involved in sports, clubs, or other activities.
Do you have a job? I babysit whenever I am able to throughout the year. I love all of the kids that I babysit, and they always make my day better.
How would you describe your group of friends? They are very supportive, up for anything, and always keep me laughing.
Who is your best friend? My mom, because she always supports me and is one of the few people who understands my sense of humor.
What do you do in your free time? I enjoy playing the ukulele and baking.
What kind of music are you listening to? Some of my favorite artists include the Beatles, Maggie Rogers, Elton John, Taylor Swift, Harry Styles, and Fleetwood Mac.
If you could go anywhere in the world for free, where would it be? I would travel to every national park in the United States, because I enjoy exploring and seeing the beauty of nature.
What is your favorite childhood memory? Playing in soccer tournaments and traveling with my teammates almost every weekend.
What is the best way to cheer you up? Just relaxing and watching one of my favorite shows is the best way to cheer me up.
What is your life's philosophy? See good in all things.
What would you do if you received $1 billion all of a sudden? I would pay for my college, put some in savings, and donate the rest.
