New Lenox student earns student of the month at Providence Catholic

Emily Langlois, a sophomore and first-year student at Providence Catholic High School earned student of the month honors for the computer science and applications department.

Langlois transferred to Providence this year from Lincoln-Way West, and with as strange of a year it has been so far, she has loved her experience so far as a Celtic.

“The students and the faculty have been so kind,” she said. “The kindness and love is awesome. It feels really great to be student of the month because everyone I’m surrounded by is so talented. I feel very lucky to be recognized.”

Each month, Providence recognizes a student from each department nominated by faculty and staff.

“Emily clearly puts time and energy into her classwork,” Laura Moss, computer teacher, said in a press release. “She also reflects the caring kindness that is Providence Catholic. Emily is a supportive classmate, often helping others with their questions. She is friendly and outgoing, which made her a friend to all in our small class.”

Langlois sees the importance of the computer science and application courses she takes.

“As technology advances, we’re going to have to keep learning and properly use them in the future,” she said. “The most beneficial part of the class so far has been learning to use Powerpoint. It is going to be a beneficial tool for so many career paths.”

Langlois has also made the most of her sophomore year at Providence in the hybrid learning model. Students do not attend in-person class every day, as some days are used as online learning.

“It hasn’t been bad at all,” Langlois said. “I’m just grateful that we get to come at all.”
