Man involved in Steger car crash that led to daughter's death: cops

Judge set $2.5 million bond for man facing multiple felony charges

A Richton Park man is facing multiple felony charges after police said he was a driver involved in a crash in Steger that led to the death of his daughter.

About 9:30 p.m. Oct. 30, officers responded to a vehicle crash in the 400 block of West 35th Street and found a Jeep Grand Cherokee had struck a tree and several vehicles, according to a Steger Police news release.

The Jeep was occupied by a 30-year-old male driver and his two daughters, police said.

Steger Police Chief Kevin Shaughnessy confirmed the driver was identified as Ceandre Moore, 30, of the 22400 block of Butterfield Road.

“The driver initially ran from the Jeep but was caught by officers in a backyard and taken into custody,” police said.

Officers recovered a loaded firearm and marijuana inside of the vehicle, police said.

One of Moore’s daughters was taken to a Franciscan Health hospital in Olympia Fields, where she was treated and released, police said.

His other daughter suffered numerous injuries and she was taken to the same hospital, where she was pronounced deceased, police said.

The victim was Cailynn Moore, 8, of Riverdale, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Ceandre Moore was also hospitalized for minor injuries, police said. He was treated and released back into custody.

On Monday, he was charged with armed habitual criminal, unlawful possession of a weapon by felon, endangering the life and health of a child, aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude officers, aggravated speeding, aggravated driving while license revoked and obstructing an officer.

The complaint alleged Ceandre Moore endangered his children and caused them bodily injury by fleeing from the police at a high rate of speed and he was eluding the police while on Richton Road in Steger.

He was also charged with possessing a handgun at the time of the incident after he was previously convicted of burglary, unlawful use of a weapon and leaving the scene of an accident in Cook County.

During a court hearing Monday, a judge found probably cause to continue Ceandre Moore’s detention at the Will County jail and set his bond at $2.5 million, court records show.

He will need to post $250,000 for his release from jail.

As a condition of Ceandre Moore’s bond, he’s not allowed to drive, consume alcohol or drugs and he must submit to drug testing and electronic monitoring if he’s released from jail.
