More Bears players placed on reserve/COVID-19 list ahead of Sunday's game

The Bears have placed two more players on the reserve/COVID-19 list this weekend. Late Saturday they announced defensive back Deon Bush went on the list. Early Sunday, Bears rookie offensive lineman Lachavious Simmons went on the reserve/COVID-19 list.

Going on the list could mean a player has contracted COVID-19, or it could mean a player was a close contact to someone with the coronavirus.

The NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported Saturday night that Bush was a close contact of someone outside the team who tested positive for the virus. Bush is reportedly quarantining in Nashville, Tennessee, where the Bears are preparing to face the Tennessee Titans.

Both Bush and Simmons have been ruled out for Sunday’s game.

Simmons’ becomes the fourth Bears offensive lineman to go on the reserve/COVID-19 list this week. Tackle Jason Spriggs and center Cody Whitehair both contracted the virus. Right guard Germain Ifedi was deemed a close contact and spent a couple days on the reserve/COVID-19 list before being cleared Friday.

The Bears had to cancel practice Thursday and clear their Halas Hall training facility in Lake Forest after learning of Whitehair's positive test.

Due to coronavirus concerns and injuries, the Bears needed to make a flurry of moves prior to Sunday’s game.

Return specialist Dwayne Harris, quarterback Tyler Bray, defensive lineman Daniel McCullers, and offensive linemen Dieter Eiselen, Badara Traore and Aaron Neary were all placed on the active roster from the practice squad.

Neary has experience playing the center position. Bray will be the backup quarterback Sunday as Mitch Trubisky deals with a shoulder injury.

The Bears and Titans kick off at noon from Nissan Stadium in Nashville.
