ST. CHARLES – The Kane County Flea Market has cancelled its Dec. 5 and 6 shows in the face of a sharp increase in the number of COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations.
"Due to the increase of COVID-19 cases in the state of Illinois and the recommendations we've received from the Kane County Health Department, we regretfully have to cancel our December flea market," the flea market announced on its website, kanecountyfleamarket.com.
Additional COVID-19 mitigations were recently placed on Kane County and neighboring counties that include a a tighter gathering cap of 10 individuals both indoors and outdoors rather than 25 and new table caps of six rather than 10 when at restaurants and bars. The new restrictions are on top of a ban on indoor dining and bar service that has been in effect in Kane and DuPage counties since Oct. 23.
The shows were to be the flea market's last shows of the year. The Kane County Flea Market's next shows are scheduled for March 6 and 7 of next year.
The West Suburban region (DuPage and Kane counties) has seen 10 days of positivity increases and five days of hospital admission increases. Currently, 23% of medical/surgical beds are available and 32% of ICU beds.
The flea market reopened in September after having to shut down after its Feb. 29-March 1 show because of the pandemic. The Kane County Flea Market is usually held on the first weekend of each month, March through December.
Helen Robinson started the Kane County Flea Market in 1967. She passed away in 2000.
