Algonquin Village Board appoints former Kane County Board member as village clerk

Maggie Auger, a retired attorney who recently served on the Kane County Board, was appointed the Algonquin village clerk at Wednesday's village board meeting.

Auger, who represented District 23 for two terms on the Kane County Board, had previously served for 18 years on the village's Economic Development and Planning and Zoning Commissions, according to a news release.

“Maggie has a long history of service in the Algonquin community,” acting Village President Debby Sosine said in the release. “Her integrity, dedication and experience serving on many different boards and advisory committees, along with her background in law, check all the boxes of what an individual will need to be successful in this role.”

Auger's appointment fills the vacancy left by longtime Village Clerk Jerry Kautz, who died in October. Auger's term will run through April.

The village clerk is an elected position with administrative responsibilities for the day-to-day activities of the Village Clerk’s Office which are managed and carried out by village staff, according to the release.

The more public aspects of the position include calling roll during public meetings, overseeing the local election process, taking meeting minutes, certifying village agreements and administering oaths of office for village officials, according to the release.
