Joliet man sped away in woman's car after she jumped on hood: cops

A woman allowed a Joliet man to drive her vehicle but when he refused to give it up, she jumped on the hood and he caused her to fall off by speeding away, police said.

Police said the driver was Amarion Denwiddie, 18, of the first block of Crowley Avenue, who was arrested in June in connection with a robbery.

About 3:40 p.m. on Thursday, officers responded to the 1500 block of Copperfield Avenue in response to a report of a vehicle that had been involved in a collision, according to a Joliet police news release.

When the officers arrived on the scene, they determined that a woman allowed Denwiddie to drive her vehicle while in the area of Pilcher Park, police said.

A short time later, the woman wanted the vehicle back but Denwiddie “sped away, leaving her behind,” according to police.

Denwiddie returned a short time later and drove at the woman but stopped short of striking her, police said.

“The female then jumped on the hood of her vehicle in an effort to get Denwiddie to exit the vehicle," according to police.

"Denwiddie then sped away with the female still on the hood at which time, she fell off the vehicle, suffering minor injuries,” police said.

Afterward, Denwiddie was involved in a crash with the woman’s vehicle in the 700 block of Algonquin Street,according to police.

He was located by Will County deputies and was arrested on probable cause of reckless conduct and reckless driving, police said.

Denwiddie was released from custody on his own recognizance, according to police.
