To the Editor:
After reading writer Gary Moore's column on Thanksgiving dinners, I can agree with him on one thing: Yes, he is selfishly talking about his Thanksgiving with no mention of the quarter-million already dead from the virus or the exponential spike in new cases we are seeing.
His argument for having a family get-together at this time is pretty thin. He cites his constitutional right to gather, but I don't believe the constitution mentions Thanksgiving at all.
He appears to lack the sense of civic duty that the constitution inspires. He claims to support the government's efforts to fight the virus but complains about the government inserting itself at his dinner table.
It's the medical experts that are begging us not to gather this year, not the government; and last I looked, no one was being prevented from traveling or gathering for the holiday.
He may accept the risk for his family, but he seems not to care at all about the nurses and doctors who are on the front lines fighting the virus because he and others have selfishly decided to accept the risk, and lost the bet.
