Two Harvard men arrested Thursday for alleged theft, burglary at Mount Auburn Cemetery

Two Harvard men were arrested Thursday for an alleged burglary of a Gator utility vehicle at Mount Auburn Cemetery in unincorporated Harvard.

According to a news release, the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office was called to the cemetery, in the 20500 block of East Brink Street, for a report of a stolen John Deere Gator.

An on-scene investigation found that a building had been broken into, and a Gator had been stolen.

Jose “Alan” Medina, 19, and Bradley Tucker, 18, both of Harvard, were arrested.

Medina was charged with burglary, electronic fencing, theft and criminal damage to property, while Tucker was charged with burglary and theft.

While the deputy was on the scene, the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office said, the officer was notified by an “honorable citizen” who said they just purchased a new John Deere Gator from Medina off Craigslist.

After the sale, this citizen confirmed with a local John Deere dealer that the vehicle was recently purchased by the cemetery, so they contacted the police.

The citizen did not want to have his information shared, Sgt. Aimee Knop said.

Both Medina and Tucker were transported to the McHenry County Adult Correctional Facility where they both were held on $40,000 bond, the sheriff’s office said.

“The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office is grateful for the integrity of the reporting citizen and the local John Deere dealer,” the office said in a statement.
