A food drive organized by Lundahl Middle School students collected 1,643 pounds of food for the Crystal Lake Food Pantry, surpassing a goal of 1,000 pounds, according to a news release.
The effort was organized by members of the Crystal Lake-based school’s student council and National Junior Honor Society in November, according to the release.
The group met virtually via Zoom to plan the drive, then printed and distributed flyers to promote the event in their neighborhoods and to Lundahl families.
“I think it is really cool to see everyone come together and help, especially during this pandemic,” eighth grader Ellie Reall said in the release.
Kim Chudik, a sixth-grade language arts and social studies teacher who co-leads the school’s student council and National Junior Honor Society, credited the students’ hard work.
“A huge thank you goes out to the NJHS and student council kids who teamed up, put flyers on doors, picked up and delivered donations,” Chudik said. “We also thank our entire community who donated at a time when people are in such need. It truly takes a village.”
