NORTH AURORA – Messenger Public Library in North Aurora is hosting a free virtual Kwanzaa celebration Dec. 15 – Jan. 2.
According to a news release from the library, the event will feature Chicago storytellers Kucha Brownlee and Baba Tony Brown, the one-hour program will consist of stories, songs and movement appropriate for all ages.
The program will introduce the symbols and principles of Kwanzaa, and will celebrate the first fruits, which are children. The program will also cover the seven principles of Kwanzaa, which are unity, self-determination, collective work and responsibility, co-operative economics, purpose, creativity and faith. The celebration will be accompanied by African drumming, shekere playing and audience participation.
