ST. CHARLES – Monday was the first day for candidates to file election packets for the April election and several races have already emerged on the St. Charles City Council.
Candidates have until Dec. 21 to file election packets. St. Charles has an aldermanic-city form of government, which is comprised of 10 aldermen, a mayor and a city administrator. The aldermen and mayor are elected officials who serve four-year terms on the City Council.
Fourth Ward Alderman Lora Vitek and 5th Ward Alderman Maureen Lewis filed election packets to run for St. Charles mayor. St. Charles Mayor Ray Rogina has already announced he will not be running in April for a third term.
In the 1st Ward, incumbent Ron Silkaitis filed along with Richard Balla Jr. In the 2nd Ward, incumbent Art Lemke filed along with Ryan Bongard. Last year, Bongard lost his race against incumbent 2nd Ward Alderman Rita Anne Payleitner.
In the 3rd Ward, Charles Amenta filed. He currently serves as St. Charles city clerk. In the 4th Ward, there is a three person race for Vitek's seat – Bryan Wirball, Laurel Moad and former Kane County Board member John Hoscheit, who had previously served on the St. Charles City Council.
There also is a three person race for Lewis' seat – Kimberly Malay, Steve Weber and Richard Artz. No one has filed yet for the positions of treasurer and city clerk.
