Woman stabbed at Hi-Tide campground

Boyfriend facing charges in attack

LELAND — The young daughter of a stabbing victim was the one who called 911 on Sunday morning in Leland, authorities said.

Deputies were sent around 12:22 a.m. Sunday to Hi-Tide Campground and Beach, 4611 E. 22nd Road, Leland for a report of a stabbing, La Salle County Sheriff’s Office said.

Upon arrival, deputies found the victim, Becky Lecompte, 34, of Houma, La., on the ground with multiple stab wounds, police said.

Her boyfriend, Jonathan T. Hebert, 39, of Houma, was later charged with aggravated battery and taken to La Salle County Jail, police said.

Lecompte, Hebert and the girl were camping at Hi-Tide, but police were unable to say if there were others with them. Alcohol was involved in the situation, police said.

Lecompte was taken to a Sandwich hospital and later to OSF St. Anthony Medical Center Rockford. A condition was not available before press time.

The initial report said he was charged with aggravated battery, a Class 3 felony with a base sentencing range of 2-5 years. According to court records, he is also charged with 1 count of aggravated domestic battery, a Class 2 felony carrying 3-7 years.

A bond hearing was expected this morning in La Salle County Circuit Court, but had not been up before press time.

The incident is under investigation by the sheriff’s office, La Salle County State’s Attorney Office and Illinois State Police Crime Scene Investigation Division.
