Joan Oliver
Lake County Journal editor, Northwest Herald columnist, copy editor
A native of McHenry, Illinois, Joan Oliver began her career with Shaw Media in 1990 as a member of the Northwest Herald copy desk. She spent 12 years as the front-page editor of the Northwest Herald, then was made the presentation editor. Eventually she was promoted to copy desk chief, then moved to the dayside of the Northwest Herald operation in 2008 as an assistant news editor. In 2014, she left full-time work at the Northwest Herald, becoming a part-time copy editor while continuing her well-received weekly column in the Northwest Herald. In 2016, she became the editor of the Lake County Journal.
