Edwards will become a free agent in March

Bears defensive end Mario Edwards Jr. faces assault charges against a woman stemming from an incident that occurred on Oct. 17 in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Bears defensive end Mario Edwards Jr. has been suspended for the first two games of the 2021 regular season for violating the NFL’s policy on performance-enhancing substances, according to a news release issued by the Bears.

Edwards played in 15 games for the Bears this season and will become a free agent in March.

The 26-year-old recorded a career-high four sacks this season, his first season with the Bears. He had six tackles for loss and seven QB hits.

Edwards also faces charges in North Carolina for allegedly assaulting a woman in a Charlotte hotel the night before the Bears played the Carolina Panthers.
