Chicago Bears injury report: Gervon Dexter, D’Andre Swift sit out practice again Friday

CB Josh Blackwell returns to practice field

Chicago Bears defensive tackle Gervon Dexter Sr. celebrates after sacking Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis during their game Sunday, Sept. 8, 2024, at Soldier Field in Chicago.

LAKE FOREST – The Chicago Bears starters Gervon Dexter and D’Andre Swift both sat out practice again Friday at Halas Hall. The Bears could be without two key starters Monday against the Minnesota Vikings.

Dexter, the starting defensive tackle with five sacks this season, injured his knee Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers. Dexter left the game early and did not return.

Swift is dealing with a groin injury. Swift dealt with a quad injury last week and still managed to play in the game.

“Right now, I think he’ll be out there [Saturday at practice],” offensive coordinator Chris Beatty said. “I think it’s one of those things where we’re just trying to be prudent with it. ... I think he’ll be able to do what he does, but we’re also prepared whatever way that goes.”

Additionally, offensive lineman Ryan Bates (concussion), running back Roschon Johnson (concussion) and tight end Marcedes Lewis (rest) also sat out practice Thursday.

In positive injury news, cornerback Josh Blackwell (shoulder) returned to practice in a limited capacity Friday after missing practice Thursday. The Bears placed kick and punt return DeAndre Carter on injured reserve this week. Blackwell could be an option in the return game if he’s healthy this week.

Safety Elijah Hicks also was limited Friday by an ankle injury. Running back Travis Homer (head) was a full participant.

The Bears will release their final injury report of the week Saturday.
