Chicago Bears injury report: Jaylon Johnson, Gervon Dexter, Teven Jenkins questionable for Detroit Lions

Interim coach Thomas Brown optimistic about Braxton Jones

Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jalen Nailor scores a touchdown just as he is pushed out of bounds by Chicago Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson during their game Sunday, Nov. 24, 2024, at Soldier Field in Chicago.

The Bears could be missing some key pieces from both sides of the ball in Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions at Solider Field.

Cornerback Jaylon Johnson was added to the injury report Friday and didn’t practice with an illness, leaving him questionable for Sunday’s game. Bears interim head coach Thomas Brown said Friday that the team will see how Johnson is feeling in the next couple of days.

Defensive tackle Gervon Dexter returned to practice Friday after missing the last couple days of walkthroughs and was limited with a knee injury. He’ll also be questionable.

On the offensive side of the ball, offensive lineman Ryan Bates (concussion) was ruled out while fellow linemen Teven Jenkins (calf) and Braxton Jones (concussion) are both questionable. Jenkins was limited and returned to practice after missing the past couple days while Jones was a full participant for a second straight day.

Brown said he was as optimistic as he could be about Jones' status while the team will see how Jenkins feels. He didn’t clarify who would play in place of Jenkins.

“We’ll see how it goes tomorrow and Sunday before the game,” Brown said.

There was also mixed news in the running back room. Roschon Johnson (concussion) was a full participant for a third straight day and had no designation for Sunday. Travis Homer was added to the list Friday and was limited with a hamstring injury, leaving him doubtful.

The Bears missed Johnson’s ability to pick up short yardage the last couple of game and Brown was excited to have him back.

“The more the merrier,” Brown said. “I think when it comes to the running back spot, you want to have enough depth there because one you have different guys from a body-type standpoint. Travis also provides a downhill running ability for us as well, but Roschon has made a big hit this year when it comes to short yardage, goal line, getting the tough yards.”

Defensive end Darrell Taylor (shoulder) was a full participant for a third straight day and has no designation while tight end Marcedes Lewis (rest) returned to practice Friday and was a full participant with no designation.
