Bears injury report: Khalil Mack remains absent from practice Friday

LAKE FOREST – A week after recording a sack against his former team, Bears outside linebacker Khalil Mack is listed as questionable to play in Sunday’s game against the Green Bay Packers because of a foot injury.

Mack did not participate in practice Friday and hasn’t practiced at all this week at the team’s facility in Lake Forest.

Mack has been incredibly durable for the Bears since they traded for him in 2018. He has missed only two regular-season games, both coming midway through the 2018 season. Mack has played in 45 consecutive regular-season games and 47 consecutive games counting the postseason.

He frequently has battled minor injuries and has been listed on the Friday injury report three previous times this season. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see him battle through this injury, as well. Still, in those three previous instances, Mack was at least a limited participant Friday of those weeks.

Coach Matt Nagy is optimistic that Mack will play, despite missing an entire week of practice.

“I think so, yeah, he knows his body better than anybody,” Nagy said.

Tight end J.P. Holtz (quad) and linebacker Caleb Johnson (knee) are the only Bears who are listed as out at this point.

In positive injury news, receiver Allen Robinson (ankle) and defensive tackle Akiem Hicks (groin) both returned to practice in a limited capacity Friday. They are listed as questionable. Robinson and Hicks both previously sat out practice Wednesday and Thursday.

Linebacker Christian Jones (back), receiver Darnell Mooney (groin), quarterback Justin Fields (rib/knee) and linebacker Danny Trevathan (knee) were full participants in practice Friday and do not carry an injury designation ahead of the game.

Defensive back Xavier Crawford (back), defensive back Duke Shelley (ankle), linebacker Joel Iyiegbuniwe (hamstring), return specialist Jakeem Grant (groin), running back Ryan Nall (ankle), defensive back Artie Burns (foot) and safety Eddie Jackson (knee) are listed as questionable

The Bears on Thursday placed running back Damien Williams on the reserve/COVID-19 list. Rookie Khalil Herbert likely will start at running back Sunday against the Green Bay Packers at Soldier Field.

The Bears also announced that wide receivers coach Mike Furrey will not attend Sunday’s game because of NFL COVID-19 protocols. Assistant wide receivers coach Chris Jackson will serve as receivers coach Sunday.
