Metro Center memberships to increase while offering members additional services

The Park District Board voted Monday to adjust its memberships

The Princeton Park District Board on Monday, Jan. 4, made a decision to hold off on making upgrades to the Jacuzzi inside the Bureau County Metro Center due to current financial concerns. The issue that the Jacuzzi is not ADA compliant was recently brought to the board's attention by a patron.

The Princeton Park District Board voted Monday to change the way that the annual membership will work at the Bureau County Metro Center.

The board voted unanimously to include the use of the weight room in the annual membership as well as all water and land fitness classes. Currently, there is an extra charge for using the weight room and also participating in classes that are offered.

“We wanted to give the annual memberships more for their money,” Secretary and Treasurer of the Princeton Park District Board Brandon Nyman said.

In order to keep up with the increased costs of utilities and wages, annual memberships will see slight price increases beginning on July 1.

Membership for singles will go up $1.20 a month and a total of $15 annually. Family memberships will increase just over $2 a month or $25 annually.

Executive Director Tammy Lange also added that the Metro Center will stay open on Sundays during the summer from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. as long as it continues to be fiscally responsible to do so.

“We will not be able to stay open for 1 or 2 people but as long as the center is being used we will stay open,” Lange said.

Another new benefit for annual membership holders will be a discounted season pool pass for  the Alexander Park for this upcoming summer.

“We are not trying to make money, we are trying to break even,” Assistant Director Nick Davis said. “Our membership prices are still way lower than other facilities in the area.”
